LEARNING, TEACHING AND TRAINING ACTIVITIES

The first learning, teaching and training activity was conducted virtually due to the situation caused by COVID-19. This activity was a short event for staff training of project participants planned for July 2019. It was finally held during the month of January, from 11 to 25 January, in morning and afternoon sessions, to ensure the attendance of all interested persons. Below is the agenda of the event:

During the activity, several teachers from IES Botànic Cavanilles (La Vall d’Uixó – Spain), Escola Professional Candido Guerreiro (Alte – Portugal) and IIS Montessori – Leonardo Da Vinci (Porreta Terme – Italy) actively participated. In addition, several members of the Fundación de la Comunitat Valenciana para una economía baja en carbón (La Vall d’Uixó) and economia&ecologia S.R.L., (Bologna – Italy) also participated.

Student exchange (C2)

The activity aimed to enable participants to make use of the activities developed in Intellectual Product 1 and 2, while learning about the importance of water, environmental care, the SDGs and promoting exchange and dialogue between students in order to develop language, social and communication skills.

The activity was divided into five working days and took place in Alte, Portugal.

Dates were: 31 January to 4 February 2022

A key part of carrying out this activity was the creation of a contingency plan, which was discussed with the parents of the students after being created jointly by all project partners. As the activity had been planned for the dates chosen since September, the acceptance of the students’ parents was necessary in order to carry it out.

A practical and participatory educational experience was proposed that allowed the students:

– Get to know the possibilities offered by other river environments and acquire skills that allow them to accompany the educational transit stage, to other students.

– Value and broaden the perspective of river environments and take on leadership roles (“river ambassadors”) both inside and outside the school.

Training Event(C3)

The activity took place in Bologna, Italy. During the training, teachers and experts shared the work done so far, to unify criteria and discuss the strategy of analysis and validation of the project experience. For them, a reflection session was held, in which they also created material that has been used subsequently for the dissemination of the project.

Participants also exchanged best practices to provide tools that can be used to address difficulties in using such methodologies, based on the results of the first phase of the project.

On the other hand, strategies were also provided to promote the participation of municipalities in the generation of initiatives, in order to enhance social learning. To this end, visits were made to the canals of Bologna and joint participation with other Italian organisations to explain the importance of water management and to see other initiatives that can be created jointly to involve students and organisations.

During these meetings with other bodies, the issue of mixed spaces, which integrate natural aspects of the river ecosystem with urban ones, was also discussed. The city of Bologna was used as an example.
